Arima United Sweeps Competition at Republic Bank Laventille Netball League

Port of Spain, Trinidad, November 29, 2018: Arima United took top honours at the prize giving ceremony of the 32nd Republic Bank Laventille Netball League, last Sunday, at Republic Bank, Head Office. The team won first place in five categories, including Top Shooter, MVP, American Tournament, and Championship in the B Division and Top Shooter in the Beginners Division.

SWWTU Malvern dethroned last year’s joint winners Hill Girls and Tamana Young Warriors, taking first place in the March Past, and defended their title in the March Past Queen and Best Flag categories, while Anola Charles of Laventille United was crowned the Tournament MVP.

In her feature address, the Bank’s newest Brand Ambassador and twelve-time national karate champion, Chenisse Charles encouraged the young women to balance sport and education to give themselves the best opportunities available. “Constantly try to be better versions of yourself,” she told the young netballers.

In the sponsor’s remarks, Republic Bank’s General Manager, Electronic Channels and Payments Division, Denyse Ramnarine praised the netballers for a job well done and made a plea to corporate T&T to band together and provide a home for netball. “This League has become a lifeline for these young women, so you can only imagine what an infrastructural change can do,” she said while echoing the sentiments made by Austrid Rochford, the League’s president at the opening ceremony four months ago.
