Port-of-Spain, Trinidad: December 7, 2015 “A photographic time capsule”, was the term used to describe, Brian Lewis’ new book, Contemporary Caribbean Architecture, which was launched recently at Medulla Art Gallery in Woodbrook.

The book which was co- sponsored by Republic Bank Limited was printed locally and showcases 50 design projects throughout the English and French Speaking Caribbean. It includes essays by photographer, Mark Lyndersay and architect, Mark Raymond. There is also a conversation between Brian Lewis and architect, Jenifer Smith.

Author of the book, Architect, Brian Lewis, emphasised that the book was written, photographed, designed, funded and printed locally. He also expressed the hope that the book and the exhibition, would serve to stimulate a renewed interest in contemporary architecture.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Bank, General Manager, Group Marketing and Communications, Michelle Palmer-Kezier, commended Lewis on the publication, saying that it was a celebration of our country’s Caribbean architecture.

“As a nation, we celebrate our leaders, athletes and other history makers yet we seldom celebrate our architects and their unique talent. Lewis is responsible for the architecture done for some of the Bank’s branches, which includes; Endeavour Operations Centre, Chaguanas, Trincity , Gulf View Toruba and UWI branches – which is now under construction.

Palmer- Kezier added that through art, every branch designed by Lewis reflects the progress of the nation. “This book, I know, will serve to better show those who come after us, the architecture of our culture; some of which may not exist in their time,” she said.
