Port-of-Spain, Trinidad: April 3, 2019: The 4th Annual Tobago International Sea to Sea Marathon will take place this year on Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19, on the sister isle of Tobago. The event was officially launched yesterday, at the Magdalena Grand Golf and Beach Resort, Lowlands, Tobago.

Since its inception, the event has attracted runners and visitors from Trinidad, the Caribbean, Latin and South America as well as across the World, for a full weekend of activities with the 5K and 10K races as well as the half and full marathons. The race course is certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Association of International Marathons (AIMS).

The initiative is supported through the Bank’s Power to Make a Difference social responsibility programme with the aim of youth development through sport. One such event was entitled ‘From Playground to Podium’, which was conducted by Maurisa Gibson-Bailey, Trinidad and Tobago’s only American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM-USA) and British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES-UK) sports scientist/exercise Physiologist, along with Dr. Barry Fudge, Head of Endurance at British Athletics.

Last year there were 740 race registrants and 617 race finishers, with 44 international participants from – Kenya, Guyana, Jamaica, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Guadeloupe and Ethiopia. Venezuela’s Pedro Mora took home the top prize in the full marathon with Alene Rita of the USA finishing first in the half.

All race finishers will receive a specially minted medal in addition to monetary rewards and trophies.
