We offer persons 60+ and over a host of special privileges and banking benefits with our Major League account. As a Major League account holder, you can enjoy attractive tiered interest rates, the convenience and security of cheques and many useful extras!

You can also open a joint Major League account if you are 60+ and your spouse can take advantage of the its benefits even if he or she is not 60+! Tiered interest is calculated on minimum daily balances of $1,000 or more and paid on the last day of each month.

Salary assignment

If the joint account holder is 60+ and has signing authority on the account, his or her spouse/relative/friend can also access the account’s benefits

Commission on:

  • local drafts- $5
  • foreign drafts/pension cheques:
    • purchase - $15
    • encashment – foreign bank charges will apply

Lower interest rates and 50% discount on monthly overdraft service charge. Overdrawn account fee applies - $11.50

For balances below $15,000, the following will apply:

  • no interest
  • $11.01 monthly service fee

FREE auto transfers

FREE encashment of local pension and disability cheques
(payment for foreign pension cheques will be covered under the applicable fees for foreign drafts)

$15,000 to $49,999.99 - 0.15%

$50,000 to $99,999.99 - 0.15%

$250,000 & above - 0.35%

If you maintain a minimum balance of $15,000, you pay no monthly service fee. However, if your minimum balance falls below $15,000, you will be charged a flat monthly fee of $11.01. This fee is applied on the 27th of the month.

What you will need

Before visiting our branches, ensure you have the following documents:

For New and Existing Republic Bank Customers

Two (2) forms of Identification (e.g. National Identification Card, Passport or Driver's Licence)
Recent Utility Bill; Authorization Letter and copy of owner’s ID, if the utility bill is not in your name
Job Letter
Pay slip
Reference Letter (In some cases)
Required Deposit for opening

For Non-Residents or Foreign Based Nationals

Two (2) forms of valid photographic ID
Utility Bill in the customer’s name valid for three (3) months (Telephone, Electricity, Water, Cable/Internet)
N.B. Where the utility bill is not in the customer’s name, the customer can submit the lease agreement, where available, or a letter from the landlord addressed to the Bank.
Proof of income:

  1. Salaried individuals - Job Letter and a recent payslip dated within the last three (3) months
  2. Self-Employed individuals will be required to submit further financials;
    • Up-to-date Audited Financial Statements (for the last three (3) years) OR
    • Management Accounts (for the last three(3) years) OR
    • Statement of Affairs and Statement of Income & Expenditure (these are available at the Sales Department upon request)
    • For a start-up entity*: An opening Balance Sheet & Cash Flow projections
Reference letter from the customer’s bankers abroad (not required where a non-national has proof of legal status and has been residing in Trinidad and Tobago for over five (5) years)
Where applicable, Work Permit/ CSME Certificate/ Other official document granting permission for employment/ Letter of enrollment/acceptance from Institution in Trinidad & Tobago (for Students only)

*Start-up entity refers to entities which have been in operation for less than three (3) years.
