Republic Cup National Youth Football League 2024 Launch

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, January 23, 2024: The 2024 Republic Cup National Youth Football League was launched on January 22 at the Republic Bank Sports Club in Barataria. The annual competition which is held in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) and Gateway Athletics is the longest running youth football league in the country as this year marks its 28th edition.

Speaking at the launch, TTFA Technical Director, Anton Corneal commended Republic Bank for their continuous effort in hosting this tournament and commented that with each year, the quality of the administration and experience improves. He also urged clubs of all sizes to participate and reinforced that the TTFA stands ready to help in any way.

Also speaking at the event was General Manager, Wealth Management at Republic Bank, J.P. Clarke. Highlighting that the Bank sponsors the Republic Cup under its Power to Make A Difference corporate social responsibility programme, Clarke shared that “This League truly empowers our junior footballers with all they require to succeed on and off field. The players get the opportunity to learn and improve through competitive matches. This not only allows them to apply their skills in real-game scenarios but also exposes them to different playing styles and challenges that contribute to their growth.”

This year will be the third year that the Republic Cup will be managed by Gateway Athletics. Shem Alexander, Managing Director of Gateway Athletics explained that the tournament officially kicks off on Saturday, February 24 and will run for 13 weeks, with the finals taking place on June 1. Games will take place in 5 divisions, East, North, South, Central and Tobago, with different grounds in each zone. The categories are Girls Under 20 as well as Boys Under 14, Under 16 and Under 20.
