The Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Golf Championships 2019

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad: April 16 2019: The 2019 edition of the Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Golf Championships came to a close last Thursday at the St. Andrew’s Golf Course, Moka, Maraval. The event opened with Prime Minister Dr. the Honorable Keith Rowley hitting the ceremonial opening tee shot.

The event gave a total of 69 juniors from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda as well as St. Lucia a chance to participate in three exciting days of competition.

In the end, Trinidad and Tobago’s Chris Richards Jnr. and Yeji Lee played their way to victory to earn the titles of Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Golf Open Male and Female champions.

Lee and Dravid Bhim will represent the Bank at the Darren Ganga Foundation’s 10th annual Charity Golf Tournament set to take place this Saturday April 20, at the Millennium Lakes Golf & Country Club, Trincity.

The tournament is made possible through the Bank’s Power to Make a Difference Programme, which focuses on the development of young people throughout the Caribbean through the medium of sport.

Anna-Maria Garcia-Brooks, Group Human Resources Manager, said “When Republic Bank started our junior golf programme over 17 years ago, we had three main objectives in mind. One was to use this wonderful sport of golf to build character, instill positive and progressive values, such as discipline, honesty, respect and resilience in generations of young people; second, to provide a viable avenue for talented young golfers to refine their skills, pit their skills against each other and perhaps achieve their dream of scholarships and careers in the sport, and thirdly, an objective that was very dear to me at the time, it was to make the sport of golf mainstream. Mainstream and accessible to all children who had the talent, the desire, the dream and the inclination – regardless of their social circumstances.”
