Paramaribo, Suriname, February 9, 2017: Tenacity and making a positive difference – the mindset underpinning Republic Bank (Suriname) N.V.’s focus for its Power to Make a Difference programme, which was launched on February 7, at the Courtyard Paramaribo. The launch of the Group’s Surinamese leg of the corporate social responsibility Programme saw four charities receive tokens, symbolising the Bank’s commitment to their causes.
The Bank’s Managing Director, Gloria Anthony, spoke about the organisation’s dedication to building a successful society within Suriname, though it is still a new player in the market. “For little more than a year, we have been proud to call Suriname our home. While we have built up a significant history of accomplishment, and especially, teamwork, the fact remains that we are still new here. We are new, but most importantly, we have been welcomed. And we are grateful. So, it is a great privilege for me, representing Republic Bank, to share our greatest hopes as we work together to achieve a stronger, more caring, more inclusive nation. This is the hope embodied in the Power to Make A Difference.” she said.
Natasia Hanenberg, Avishka Jhinkoe, Chantal Van den Bergh and Renate Telting, representing the National Foundation for the Blind and Persons who are partially sighted in Suriname (NSBS); the Foundation Postgraduate Education for Medicine in Suriname; the Foundation Biblionef Suriname, and the Sport Association Neptunes Suriname, respectively, all expressed their gratitude for the Bank’s support.
Social investment has always been an integral part of Republic’s DNA. The Group firmly believes that it has a part to play in helping struggling communities to enhance the quality of life for themselves and future generations. The Power to Make a Difference Programme, is the primary mechanism through which the Group achieves that objective. The Programme focuses on specific areas of need, namely, the development of young people through education, sport and the arts; Poverty alleviation; healthcare, the environment and the differently-abled. The Programme currently exists within the Group's regional subsidiaries in Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Guyana and Barbados.
Republic Bank (Suriname) N.V. announced a commitment of SRD 800,000 toward the Programme for the year.
